Philosophy

Season Plan
  1. Northcoast season begins in late May
  2. Playoffs - Late July
  3. Optional tournaments in July/August
  4. We will also have practices outside when the weather looks good. These may be on short notice.
  5. Once the season begins, we plan to hold at least one weekly practice
  6. All players are in the batting order for each game. Not all players will be in the field all the time. Every player will play at least four innings in the field every game (Assuming a seven inning game). However, the amount of time in the field and the spot in the batting order will be determined by a combination of skill, attitude, practice time commitment and the overall best interest of the team.
  7. Field positioning will be determined solely at the discretion of the coaching staff. We have an abundance of quality fielders. No player will play one position all the time.
Team Rules
  1. Players are expected to arrive at the beginning of practice. On game days, if player does not arrive 30 minutes prior to a game, it may alter their playing time, spot in the order and field position. This is necessary so coaches are not wasting practice time close to the start of the game altering the line up.
  2. Absences – While we expect our team to be a priority we recognize that the players and families are involved in other activities. It is fine to miss a game or practice with 48 hours notice. Please avoid giving notice at the last minute. In the worst case, we may not be able to get a sub and have to forfeit a game. Obviously, no one wants that.
  3. We are a team! Player/team unity is essential to having a good time and being successful. Fighting, teasing, pushing, shoving amongst teammates will not be tolerated.
  4. The players will have different skill levels. No player shall ever be critical of another player’s ability. Once you have made this team, we are all equal. Baseball is a team sport.
  5. Players will be respectful to coaches, umpires, other teams, teammates and all parents.
  6. Discipline: Misbehaving during a game or practice will result in running, pushups or missing game time depending on the action. Examples of misbehaving include: Not listening to coaches, ignoring signs, talking while coaches are talking, fighting, teasing, arguing, pushing, throwing equipment or using foul language.
Parent Expectations
  1. We are a team also! Parent unity is important to having a good time and being successful. Get to know each other, get involved in team activities and have a good time.
  2. Travel baseball required a higher degree of commitment. The commitment is required of both the player and parent.
  3. Please be patient and supportive and provide positive feedback to your children.
  4. Please, no coaching from the stands. Positive enthusiasm is fine.
  5. Please avoid car speeches after a game or practice. The coaches will instruct the kids on what they need to be focusing on.
  6. There will be no tolerance of verbal abuse of umpires, coaches and players (either team).
  7. Please give 48 hours notice of scheduled absences. Remember, your consideration will allow alternates to fill-in and avoid forfeits.
  8. Parents should be supportive of coaches. In the event you have concerns, they should be addressed directly with us.
  9. Your children play baseball because they want to. This should be an enjoyable learning experience. If they work hard, they will be better baseball players because of it.
  10. School and family functions take precedence over baseball.
  11. Team communication will be done primarily via email. It is the responsibility of each parent to check email for game cancellations, reschedules, etc. A practice/game schedule will be posted on our Website at: http://vallebaseballgloves.com
Manager and Coaches Expectations
  1. Our goal is help the kids have a positive experience while developing their baseball skills.
  2. We need parent feedback. Please don’t wait until the end of the season. Please keep in mind that we are focused on all kids improving not just your child.
  3. Attendance is a condition of playing time in the field. If your child shows up a few minutes before a game without notice to the coaching staff, you can expect that he will not be starting in the field that game.
  4. Players will play more than one position. Sometimes players will be assigned a position that they don’t enjoy, or they may feel that they can make more of a contribution elsewhere. Remember, versatile players are more valuable to a team. Learning multiple positions will benefit the kids as they move up to higher levels of ball.
  5. 24 hour rule – If you are concerned with how we are handling anything with your child, we ask that you refrain from talking to us until 24 hours after a game. This way, you have time to reflect on why we may have done something and issues can be addressed or explained in a calm supportive environment.
  6. Our goal is to show a measurable improvement in each player and the team by the end of the season.
